Henny Admoni

Henny Admoni is an Assistant Professor in the Robotics Institute at Carnegie Mellon University. She leads the Human And Robot Partners (HARP) Lab, where they study how assistive robots can help improve people’s lives. She is mostly interested in human-robot interaction, assistive robotics, and modeling human behavior. Dr Henny Admoni’s research focuses on developing intelligent, autonomous robots that help humans on complex tasks like eating a meal or learning a new skill. She applies her background in robotics, computer science, and cognitive psychology to build mathematically rigorous algorithms grounded in human behavior research. These algorithms enable robots to detect, interpret, and respond to human verbal and nonverbal behavior. Applications of Henny’s research include robot home assistants, robot tutors, and robotic therapy tools. Henny’s research has been supported by the National Science Foundation, the Paralyzed Veterans of America Research Foundation, the US Office of Naval Research, and Sony. Previously, Henny Admoni was a postdoctoral fellow at CMU with Siddhartha Srinivasa in the Personal Robotics Lab. Henny completed her PhD in Computer Science at Yale University with Professor Brian Scassellati in the Social Robotics Lab. Her PhD dissertation was about modeling the complex dynamics of nonverbal behavior for socially assistive human-robot interaction. She also holds an MS in Computer Science from Yale University, and a BA/MA joint degree in Computer Science from the Wesleyan University.
